Hi,
what is the best way to deal with modular equipment in Wirecad? We often use devices where you can add modules to expand the functionality, e.g. many modern routers. At the moment I do my drawings with Visio and I just leave a space in the block where a slot is, dedicated input slots on the left, dedicated output slots on the right and all other slots extending from left to right. Then I virtually snap in my modules into the chassis.
Can something similar be done with Wirecad? Especially the naming of the Ports would be interesting. There are devices where the module only determines the port type (think of a GBIC-Port on a network switch or a output-card on a audio mixer), so the name of the port(s) is given by the slot. Then there are devices where you can use different modules with different input and/or output port counts, I usually use something like Sysname-Slot#-Portname.
And how do you deal with modular equipment in the Rackbuilder? So far I draw my racks with Excel, so I can write whatever I want in my Rack. I guess with the more parametric approach there should be a trick to deal with that.

Hi Dorian, thanks for the question. We get this one fairly often and rather than write yet another of the same reply I have written a page on the wiki that discusses it:

If I have missed anything or you need further clarification just reply to this ticket to re-open it.

Thanks,
Chris
