Hi, I'm interested in WireCAD but unfortunately I can't find a good comparison between the different versions. I have seen that I can compare the products in your shop, but the specs are not really complete.
What is the difference between a normal licence and a 12 month installment plan?
What are the features or restrictions of the Free version?
What about a equipment database, I think I have read somewhere about that but there is no reference in the shop. Do you maintain a equipment database? Is the access restricted either by number or time or subscription?

Thank you

Hi Dorian,
Thanks for your interest. Let's run through your questions:

1.What is the difference between a normal licence and a 12 month installment plan?
A: You can either pay the purchase price as a single payment or spread that over 12 months. This requires a credit card purchase. You will be billed the purchase price divided by 12 monthly payments on the month anniversary of your purchase date. On month 13 you will continue to be billed but at the Assurance rate (60% of list/12) until such time as you cancel. You are not obligated under this plan to anything past the initial 12 months but with your Assurance current you are eligible for all the Assurance benefits including major program updates and priority tech support.

2.What are the features or restrictions of the Free version?
A. It is hampered and naggy and snarky. In addition you are limited printing watermarked outputs and may only add 25 SysNames and 100 cable numbers to the database.

3.What about a equipment database, I think I have read somewhere about that but there is no reference in the shop. Do you maintain a equipment database? Is the access restricted either by number or time or subscription?
A. WireCAD includes a database of equipment definitions (manu, model, i/o). We do not sell data. The database is there for you to populate. It will come to you with several hundred device definitions as examples. We host a community server that is searchable from the Equipment Library. Items found in the community library may be freely downloaded to your local database. This is not available in the XL Free version.

I hope that help.

Thanks Chris, I have a followup question:
What is the exact difference between the BOM available in XLT and System Snapshot of PRO/ENT?
I can see that I don't have the cable grid, I can live without that. But what I need is the ability to generate three types of lists:
1. A classical BOM where all pieces of equipment off the same type in the design are summed up, so we get an overview how many xyz-type gear we have to buy.
2. A list which shows all devices and cables in the design with their properties, like name, room, rack, location, power consumption and so on not summed up.
3. A list of every single cable with type, label, length, connector types, terminals (name and location of the equipment where it is connected to and name of the socket) and so on. I need to be able to export this list to .csv or .xls so we can feed our label printer with it (not a P-Touch, we print labels in bulk).

Can I do this with XLT and if not, can I do this with PRO?

Q:What is the exact difference between the BOM available in XLT and System Snapshot of PRO/ENT?
A: Both XLT and PRO support the creation of a BOM. The System Snapshot is a graphical representation of a selected system. The snapshot shows all available ports as defined in the global equpment library and those that are actually connected in the cables database. This is useful for equipment that you have represented across multiple drawings.

I can see that I don't have the cable grid, I can live without that. But what I need is the ability to generate three types of lists:
1. A classical BOM where all pieces of equipment off the same type in the design are summed up, so we get an overview how many xyz-type gear we have to buy.
A: Available in both XLT and PRO. Must be generated and given a name.
2. A list which shows all devices and cables in the design with their properties, like name, room, rack, location, power consumption and so on not summed up.
A: The Equipment list can either be exported directly or use one of the pre-defined reports that show equipment for the project. All the fields are available to the reporting engine even though the report may not make use of the field. We make the report designer available to XLT and PRO
3. A list of every single cable with type, label, length, connector types, terminals (name and location of the equipment where it is connected to and name of the socket) and so on. I need to be able to export this list to .csv or .xls so we can feed our label printer with it (not a P-Touch, we print labels in bulk).
A: Cables grid can be exported or you can use one of our predined reports. The p-touch is not the only way to print directly from WireCAD. If you have an existing process you can export the cables grid directly. We may be able to eliminate a step if we can print directly to your label printer. What make/model are you using?

Regarding my last question you answered "Cables grid can be exported or you can use one of our predined reports". So does that mean it is available in XLT?

Regarding your question "What make/model are you using": We use a common laser printer and sheets of wrap-around-labels. Each sheet has 8x5 labels on it. On each label we print three lines, first line is the label-id, second is the near end connection, third line is the far end connection. With that workflow I usually can print a few hundreds of labels in under one minute. The only drawback is when I have to reprint labels on site. So I made a special Excel sheet where I can print my labels from and keep track of which labels already have been printed and which labels need to be reprinted, so I can collect them until I have filled at least half a sheet.
I tried to attach a sample pdf, but it wouldn't work!

We have report definitions that fit the bill. In addition we have the ability on report output to pad empty records (for those partially printed sheets) and to set the label count so you can print the same label side by side instead of creating duplicate sheets.

And yes that is available in XLT
